Why dogs chase moving objects

Safety

Prey is an instinctive need of the dog to chase an object and manipulate or bite it. Manipulating involves a dog chewing, biting and tearing. Prey is utilized as a reward for task accomplishment when a dog receives a bite on decoy. A ball thrown or given to the dog during detector work also fulfill this need and is used a s a reward.
